RYA Stage 1

WE CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE ANY FURTHER COURSES PLANNED FOR 2019 – PLEASE CHECK BACK IN THE NEW YEAR

The Stage 1 course is designed teach juniors who have never sailed before, how to launch, rig and sail under supervision. This course is ideal for those wanting to trial or start on the sailing path.

Over the course of two days you will cover the following:

KNOWLEDGE OF: Wind awareness/ direction Basic Boat Controls Parts of the boat Stopping, Controlling Speed and getting out of irons Knots (Figure of 8 and cleating) Clothing and Equipment Local Hazards Preparing for a tow

PRACTICAL:

Rigging a boat Steer when sailing and being towed Steer on a reach and tack Paddle or row Call for assistance Confident in the water with a buoyancy aid on. Capsize Recovery Stowing and manoeuvring a boat on shore

Clap your hands whilst sailing Speed Rigging Relay Race!
